Hi! Thanks for checking out the writing side of Something Different Upcycled. This post is meant to do two things: first, it will provide an overview of what’s on the website and give you some idea of what kinds of things will appear here, and second, you’ll get a bit of a tease about a few of the posts that will appear in the coming weeks and months.

Before we get on with it, a blanket statement about the comment sections for all posts, on any platform at all: BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER. As the person who writes all of the posts here and who is most likely to read ALL of the comments, I’m open to constructive criticism and suggestions. I’d love for the comments section to become a conversation! Differences of opinion are welcome but, truly, let’s all remember that actual real people are involved here and respond accordingly. Keep in mind that I can’t see you so if you decide to stop reading, no one will ever know. You don’t need to announce it.
Why am I here?
OK! On to the good stuff: what’s on this website? If you’re curious about Something Different’s origin story, check out the About page. There are also pages for product care, where to buy (including markets to find Something Different Upcycled at), and FAQs. You’ll notice that the option to ‘Shop’ isn’t here on its own. You’ll see links on each page to the Etsy shop and the Instagram profile (more social media links might appear in the future – let me know if there’s someplace that SDU absolutely MUST be present). Where specific SD items are mentioned, there will be a link to the shop. For the time being, online sales go through Etsy. If that changes, I’ll post about it here and on social media. Direct inquiries about markets, wholesale or custom orders, etc. to sdupcycled – at – gmail.com.
For the sake of ease (cutting and pasting), on Etsy, look for SDUpcycled and on Instagram, look for @sdupcycled.
What I’m on about
What you’ll find here on the blog is mostly information related to reducing our reliance on single use items through posts on upcycling, caring for SDU items, and the occasional how-to. Sometimes I’ll get a bit rant-y. Sometimes I’ll feature a new item or collection, complete with backstory about the fabrics used. I’ll provide information about markets I’ll be at, and possibly even short profiles about other folks who make great upcycled work. This content line up might change as time goes on, so if there is something that you’d like to see or know more about, please get in touch! Also let me know if there are kinds of posts that you love or don’t love.
What’s coming up?
So what do I have planned? What’s coming up? In the next few months of 2024, expect to see posts about markets for this year, making zero-waste lunch kits and reusables work for you and your household, and features on a few of my favourite Something Different Upcycled products.
