About
BRAND STORY
Something Different Upcycled was born from my (Kristy, she/her) long-standing love of good fabrics, a passion for making things, and a commitment to reducing my family’s reliance on single-use items. Fun fact: I started with holiday gift wrap! I just finished the edges of rectangles of seasonal quilting cottons that I got on a clearance sale in the middle of summer and we’re still using them every year.
I’ve been making things out of sheets, shower curtains, and old fabrics since I was given my first sewing machine as a gift more than 20 years ago. At that time, I worked in the bedding and bath department of a major retailer where I was able to buy returned and discontinued sheets and other textiles for very little money – perfect for a beginning sewist! Skip ahead a couple of decades, a few post-secondary degrees, several major life changes, and here I am, still using great thrifted and deadstock fabrics to make great upcycled things.
Thanks for taking the time to visit the website. I appreciate your interest in Something Different Upcycled. Let me know if you have any questions or comments!
ABOUT SOMETHING DIFFERENT UPCYCLED ITEMS
Many Something Different Upcycled items are one of-a-kind. I love the challenge and creative constraints that come with using only thrifted and deadstock materials, so I frequently will make only one item with a specific combination of fabrics, even if I have more of each of the fabrics left over. That’s why you’ll often see the same fabrics in different kinds of items, rather than in multiples of the same item. (That said, get in touch if you need a matching set of something – I’m happy to accommodate special orders if I have the fabric to do so).
VALUES
Everyday, we all can make choices that reduce our impact upon the world we share, beginning with making use of resources that already exist. Something Different Upcycled is committed to choosing thrifted and deadstock materials whenever possible to create unique, useful, and durable upcycled items.
