This is the Something Different Upcycled Product Profile for our zippered pouches. It’s the latest post in a series where I tell you a little bit more about items in the SDU shop. These Product Profile posts have more information than what is available in the Etsy listings. It’s also a great way to find out more about a Something Different Upcycled item you found at Homemade Community Shoppe in Chilliwack. (Did you know that you can find Something Different Upcycled there? Here’s the post with all the details.)
Please note: At the time I’ve posted this Product Profile (22 November 2024), my Etsy shop is on vacation mode until the resolution of the Canada Post strike. The links to the Etsy shop will become active again once the shop is out of vacation mode. In the meantime, find Something Different at Homemade in Chilliwack. And I’ll be at Good Stuff $50 and Under at Heritage Hall in Vancouver next weekend (30 November- 01 December). Follow me on Instagram too. It’s the best way to stay up to date on what I’m up to.
Why Do You Need This?
I mean, who DOESN’T need a place to keep things? Zippered pouches are so incredibly versatile that trying to describe why they’re useful is almost pointless because they are so self-evidently practical.
Be that as it may, here’s why you need a zippered pouch from Something Different Upcycled in particular:
First, the colour and fabric combinations are amazing and sometimes surprising.
You absolutely need to check the lining fabric before deciding if you like an SDU pouch because you never know what you’re going to find. Cowboys, sharks, dinosaurs, vintage florals: these have all been lining fabrics for our zippered pouches. Don’t worry: there are plenty of solids and more subtly printed lining fabrics too.
Second, each SDU zippered pouch is built to last and is easy to care for.
All seams are fully finished, which means that your pouch will continue to be useful for a long time to come. Each pouch is machine washable. Air dry after that and you’re ready to go again!
Finally, you can feel good about helping to divert textiles from landfill!
Yay! All Something Different Upcycled items are made from materials that are thrifted, upcycled, and/or deadstock. The fabric is thrifted and sometimes upcycled, while the zippers are generally deadstock. All are tested throughout the production process and after the final laundering to make sure that they are in good working order. Only then are they made available for sale.
An important note: these zippered pouches are not intended for use as snack bags. Any food items that you put in them should be inside another container or wrapping. That said, Something Different Upcycled zippered pouches are GREAT for holding utensils and reusable cloth napkins in your zero-waste lunch kit. See the photos and the Something Different Upcycled Instagram feed for some ideas of the sizes that might work best for your needs. Or send me a message – I’d love to help you find the perfect zippered pouch.
If you like our zippered pouches but want something a bit different, like a specific size or a longer zipper pull, please get in touch! As long as I have the fabric to do so, I’d love to make a custom zippered pouch for you. Let’s chat!
What Are They Made Of?
Many are made from upholstery samples, home decor remnants, or curtain panels and lined with sheets, fabric remnants, or throw cushion covers. Like all Something Different Upcycled items, ALL are made from thrifted and/or upcycled sources.
In other words, each pouch is likely to be a mixture of synthetics and natural fabrics. Many are one-of-a-kind, or one-of-a-few at most.
How Do You Care For Them?
Start with spot cleaning when necessary. Gently wash in a mesh laundry bag or pillowcase when needed. Hang to dry whenever wet for whatever reason – rain, laundry, a spill inside or outside, whatever.
