Something Different Upcycled at Homemade Community Shoppe

  • by

Happy Friday, everyone! If you follow me on Instagram (and you really should), you already know the big news. Beginning tomorrow, September 7th, 2024, Something Different Upcycled items will be available at the new permanent location of the Homemade Community Shoppe in Chilliwack, BC, just on the edge of District 1881!

This is what you're looking for from the parking lot across Princess Avenue.

Grand opening!

Something Different Upcycled is one of dozens of small businesses and makers who have come together in this gorgeous 1927 historic home to offer a collection of truly homemade, handmade, artisan products. You’ll find other fibre artists, beauty and personal care items, home decor pieces and more, all in one spot. And there’s a coffee truck outside! Hillary’s done an unbelievable job of putting all of this together and her vision shines through in every little detail. The space feels warm and inviting, even before you open the front door.

The grand opening of the new location at 46067 Princess Avenue in Chilliwack is tomorrow, September 7th, at 10am. I’ll be there for a bit in the morning so come say hi if you’re in the area!

A side note:

If you’ve been reading the blog for a while, you know by now that I absolutely don’t advocate shopping for the sake of shopping and that I think that secondhand should be the first choice for many things. I ALSO believe that it is extremely important to support small businesses, especially when they are local to you. You’re supporting your neighbours and your community when you do so, and who doesn’t love that?

All those memes about small business owners doing happy dances when someone buys from them? They’re not wrong, even if the celebrations might look a bit different from person to person. We all value your business, and your purchases help us to keep creating awesome things, while at the same time keeping our local economy strong. Buying from small handmade, homemade artisans and makers shows your support for uniqueness, creativity, and art. Thanks!

Which SDU items will be available there?

Which items from the Something Different Upcycled lineup can you find at Homemade Community Shoppe? Well, the short answer is a bit of everything: key leashes, four sizes of zippered pouches, bread bags, napkins, multipurpose cloths, as well as two styles of tote bags, one that is – at the moment – only available there. Please note that all of the links provided in the previous sentence are to the items available in the Something Different Upcycled Etsy shop and are for illustrative purposes only. Items available at Homemade Community Shoppe have been removed from the Etsy listings.

As always, all Something Different Upcycled items are made with thrifted, upcycled, or deadstock fabrics, and many things are one-of-a-kind. Even more are one-of-a-few.

As I add new items to the SDU lineup, most will be available at Homemade Community Shoppe first, including some items in the works for the holiday season. I’ll post about that on Instagram first (see? You really should follow me there) and will write about those new items in blog posts as they’re completed.

A little sneak peek at the set-up yesterday. 😉

In the meantime, right now, start planning your Saturday morning to include a stop at the Homemade Community Shoppe grand opening.
